This course is designed as the summative extension of your development of Advanced Practicum Competencies within the Master of Nursing. Seminars and one-to-one work with your academic and clinical mentor(s) are designed to support the advanced practicum and further development of nurse practitioner competencies.
Throughout thie course you will extend your professional practice portfolio of evidence of advanced practice competencies which was initiated at the commencement of the Master of Nursing.
The health service management course is a multi-disciplinary course open to all health care professional who are either in a management position or wishing to move into management. The course is strategic in nature, utilises contemporary leadership/management discussion and practice to broaden the field of study and offers an in-depth view of health management today.
Human Lactation, Breastfeeding and Infant Nutrition. MN/PG 407
This course develops theoretical and practical knowledge of breastfeeding, human lactation and infant nutrition to an expert level. Practitioners are assisted to explore the context of breastfeeding, human lactation and infant nutrition in relation to historical and sociocultural perspectives, anatomy and physiology and breastmilk science, supporting the mother and baby dyad and other contemporary issues such a working and breastfeeding, ethics and breastfeeding advocacy within the community.
Students completing this course would be capable of providing an environment that supports breastfeeding and optimum infant nutrition in both the hospital and community.
This course is recognized as an excellent education resource for completion of the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant qualification. There are 3 seminars held within it which are opened to interested groups and earn Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs) required for recertification as a lactation consultant (IBLCE). This course also has Midwifery Council approval for 40 elective education points.

This course develops in depth understanding of pharmacologic priniciples used to support the delivery of care to clients in varoius settings. Diagnostic,nutritional and pharmacolotherapeutic agents affecting the major body systems are studied. The uses of traditonal Maori health practices,complementary and homeopathic agents are reviewed within research literature and situated within the changing framework of health delivery.
