Student Help - Logging In
New students logging in on campus
Logging In On Campus
Login to any student computer at any EIT Campus. Log in using the User name and Password you have been provided. Click on the arrow to continue.
Your User name and Password is documented in the Student Login Handout sheet which should have been sent to you or given to you on your orientation day. If you have not received your User name and Password, please contact your programme secretary to make sure your enrolment is complete.
Change you password
It is recommended that you change your password as soon as you login so your password is unique. To do this on an EIT computer wait till you see desktop icons on the screen after logging in, then press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys on your keyboard. Click on Change a password...
Your new Password needs to be 6 characters or more. If you forget your Password or you get locked out of the computers, go to the Help page in this EITOnline book.
Log into EITOnline
When you open up the Internet on any EIT computer the MyEIT student landing page should come up. There is a link to EITOnline on the student landing page, otherwise go to http://eitonline.eit.ac.nz
New students logging in off campus
Logging In Off Campus
Open up the Internet on your computer and type in, or copy, this weblink into your Internet browser window http://eitonline.eit.ac.nz
It is recommended after you login for the very first time to change your password to something unique. You can change your password on the MyEIT student landing page by using the Password Reset option.
Students returning for another year of study
If you are a returning EIT student and it has been less than 90 days since you last logged in to any of EIT's systems (EIT computers, student webmail or EITOnline) then your old password should still work but may require changing before you can log in to EITOnline again. Try your old password in EITOnline and if it doesn't work the first time then change your password on the MyEIT student landing page by using the Password Reset option. If you enter an incorrect password more than 4 times your account will lock so it's better to reset your password than lock it with too many incorrect attempts. Also, use a totally new password when changing your password as the last 10 passwords will still be remembered and cannot be reused.
If it has been longer than 90 days since you last logged into any of EIT's systems then your password may have been reset back to the original password when you first enrolled. If need be, use the MyEIT student landing page Password Reset option to change this to something new. Also, use a totally new password when changing your password as even though your password has been reset, the system still remembers the last 10 passwords from your previous enrolment.
Has your password expired?
EITOnline will remind you when your password is due to expire from 7 days prior. You should change your password before the last available day and you can use EITOnline to do this. Once your password expires you will not be able to login into EITOnline until it has been changed elsewhere. Accounts with expired passwords will not work in EITOnline and will constantly return you back to the EITOnline login screen stating your username and password are incorrect. If this happens then go to http://resetpassword.eit.ac.nz/ to change your expired password or use one of the password reset kiosks available in the EIT Libraries and at the IT Services Helpdesk. Otherwise contact the Student Support staff in the Library or email the IT Services Helpdesk to reset your password but have your ID Card or other form of identification handy.
Forgotten your EIT password?
There are password reset kiosks in the EIT Libraries and at the IT Services Helpdesks. If located at a regional centre ask one of the regional centre coordinators to reset your password but remember to have your ID Card or other form of Identification with you.
How to Log Out of EITOnline
You should always logout before closing your Internet browser window when you have finished working with your online course - especially if you share a computer.
To Log out, click on your name to access the dropdown menu in the top right hand corner of the screen. Near the bottom of the list is the option to Log out.
When you have successfully logged out you will see the word (Log in) displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen.
Once logged out successfully then you can safely close your Internet browser page.
Where to go for help
Sometimes it's hard to know where to go for help. Generally any course specific issues such as accessing activities or viewing files in a course will need to be sorted by your course coordinator. Other more generic requests such as "How do I upload an assignment", or "How do I use forum's" can be supported by Student Support staff in the EIT Libraries. The information below offers more information on who to contact for support with using and accessing EITOnline.
