Finding a course

Note: In the examples below, we are using the 'Bachelor of Computing' for the programme and 'ITDT5.220 Data' for the course. Your programme and course will probably have different names.

Any EITOnline courses you have already enrolled in will display in the My courses dropdown list in the dark grey menu or on your Dashboard page. If the courses don't show you will most likely be expected to self enrol into the course so follow the steps below to do this. You will also need an enrolment key to do this.

To enrol in a course, click on the 'All Courses' Tab in the dark grey bar along the top of the page.

The Courses page will open. This page contains links to all the programmes and courses offered by EIT listed under Category headings (often by school name). The quickest way to find your course/subject is to type in the most unique part of the course name in the Search courses text box and click on Go.

For the example course ITDT5.220 Data, typing in itdt5 in the search box and clicking Go should narrow down the courses with that specific content in the title enough to easily find the course/subject in the search results displayed on screen. The image below shows only one course matched the search criteria of 'itdt5' and it exists under the Bachelor of Computing Systems category so is also in the correct programme (listed as the example programme at the top of the page).

Before trying to self enrol in a course choose the course title carefully since courses/subjects can:

  • Have similar names with minor differences such as one number being different. (Data Communications & Networking 1, 2 or 3)
  • Have the correct name but be available in the wrong semester or year (MN9.490 Masterate Research Online 2015)
  • Have the correct name but incorrect campus location (ITPM6.310 Project Management Auckland)
  • Have the correct name but is listed under the wrong Category programme name (Continued access or wrong degree name)

When you find your course/subject, click on it to self enrol.

If you are not sure the correct version of the course is visible to you then phone your programme secretary (for online courses) or ask your tutor next time you go to class before enrolling as the right course may still be hidden from student view so it will not show up in any searches until the tutor makes it visible (sometimes they forget to do this).

If the above mentioned way of searching doesn't find the required course then you can expand the programme categories till you find the course you want. Click on a category name to expand it and see the sub categories or courses/subjects underneath it. In this example Computing has been expanded to show all the programmes available in EITOnline run by the school of Computing.

Clicking on Bachelor of Computing Systems category heading would then display all the courses beneath this category as well.  Several pages may be used to hold all the courses/subjects contained within a programme so you may need to go to the next page to find the one you want. These pages can be navigated to by clicking on the page number or the (Next) or (Previous) links at the top of the page.

When you find your course/subject, click on it to self enrol.

Self enrol in a course

If you have arrived at a page similar to that shown below and want to enrol in that subject you will need to enter an enrolment key in the Enrolment key text area highlighted in green.

This enrolment key will most likely be supplied to you in class by your tutor (for on-campus courses) or often with your programme enrolment information (for most online courses). A series of dots appear when entering the enrolment key in the Enrolment key textbox. When entered click on Enrol me.

If you get a message saying the Enrolment key is incorrect then try again but check what you have entered; tick the Unmask check box and the dots will be replaced by text. Enrolment keys are case sensitive. If it doesn't work then check you are enrolling in the correct version of the course (correct semester, correct year, correct campus location) otherwise contact your tutor to let them know or ask your programme secretary if you don't know who the tutor is.

If successful the subject you have enrolled in will open and its location will be displayed at the Navigation Bar at the top left of the page. The subject you have just enrolled in and any other subjects you are enrolled in will be displayed on your Dashboard page and in the My courses menu. It can take a few minutes to display new courses so be patient.

How to unenrol

Note: Un-enrolling from a course in EITOnline deletes the course from your My courses list and Dashboard page and also removes you as a participant from the EITOnline course. It does not officially withdraw you from a course or remove any related course costs. Make sure you contact your Programme Secretary to officially withdraw from a course or programme.

To remove a course from your Dashboard page or My courses list go into the course you want to unenrol from. Under the Administration block there is the option to Unenrol me from 'Subject name'. Click on this option.

A page will open asking if you really want to unenrol. If you want to unenrol, click the Continue button. If you have arrived here by mistake and do not wish to unenrol click the Cancel button.
